I developed the idea for Healthy You, Healthy Me because of my own wellness challenges.
But You’re So Young
At the ripe old age of 30, I began having severe pain. At first, I thought I must have pulled a muscle playing with my daughter. I’d baby the injury for a few days with ice and ibuprofen, and never gave it much thought. Then my hands began swelling. Since typing is required for a data entry clerk, it was time to see a doctor.
I was misdiagnosed., spent several months under the care of a doctor who really only wanted to perform surgery, and ended up in so much pain that most days all I could accomplish was laying on the couch in the fetal position. At the urging of my aunt (a nurse), I went back to my family doctor and asked for more tests. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I was barely 31.
In one short year, I had gone from a healthy, young wife and mother to an immobile blob on the couch. Many days I had to have help to even get dressed.
It has been a battle of survival since then. Even now people will look shocked and tell me, “But, you’re so young.”
I Don’t Want Others To Be In Pain
No one should have to live in isolation and pain. If my experiences can help others avoid the mistakes I’ve made, then at least it wasn’t a complete and epic FAIL.
Baby Steps to a Healthier You
Healthy You, Healthy Me is about taking small steps to become healthier than you were yesterday. We’ll learn and grow healthier as a team. We’ll look at physical, mental and spiritual wellness. As a team, we can share what is working for us and what isn’t.
